The top portion of the logo is the thunderbird, a huge mythical bird that lived in the mountains on Vancouver Island and preyed on whales. It is called the thunderbird because when it left its mountain home it would fly out over the ocean in search of whales, making a thundering sound with its immense wings.

On the body of the thunderbird you can see a face. This represents the World Council of Whalers. It is part of the thunderbird because it represents the link between the thunderbird (hunter) and the whale.

The World Council of Whalers was created to link and re-establish the relationship between the whalers and the whales.

The bottom half is the whale. This is self-explanatory. However, in the whale you can see four faces. These faces represent the whaling communities. And in our case the whaling communities from around the world
